Yehuda Emmanuel Safran is internationally renowned critic of Art and Architecture. He studied at Saint Martin’s School of Art, the Royal College of Art, and University College, London. Art, Architecture and Philosophy respectively. He has taught at the Architectural Association, Goldsmith’s College, London University, the Royal College of Art, London, Jan van Eyck Academy, Maastricht and the GSAPP at Columbia University NY. He was a fellow of the Chicago Institute of Architecture and Urbanism and Visiting Professor at the School of Architecture, University of Illinois, as well as at Rhode Island School of Design, Harvard Graduate School of Design and the Mendrisio Academy, Ticino. In recent years he was a visiting Prof. at Nanjing and Tongji Graduate School at Shanghai. He has published in 9H, Casabella, Domus, Sight and Sound, Paris Match, Lotus, A+U, AA Files, Proto-typo, Metalocus, Abitare, The Plan, Springer, Springerin and Artpress inter alia. With Steven Holl and others, he was editor of 32 Beijing/New York and among the editors of Springer, Vienna. He is the author of Mies van der Rohe (2000). He curated, inter alia, the Arts Council of Great Britain’s touring exhibition and publication: The Architecture of Adolf Loos for the British Art Council at ICA London and Cooper Union NY inter alia, and the Frederick Kiesler show at the Architectural Association. London. Recently: Consultant to Aldo Rossi exhibition at Princeton and Curator of the Adolf Loos: Our Contemporary, at the CAAA Guimareas, Portugal MAK Vienna, Austria at the GSAPP Columbia University Gallery and Bibliotheca Marciana, Venice. He was a trustee of the 9H Gallery, a founding member of the Architecture Foundation in London, and a member of the College International de Philosophie, Paris. Currently he lives and works in New York, where he directed the Potlatch journal and the Research Lab for Art and Architecture, principle contribution to urban workshops in Mumbai slum and issues of density in Geneva, Advisory Board member of the first Autostrada Art Biennale at Kosovo, and teaches architecture history and theory at Pratt Institute, he has been, for the last 22 years consultant to Steven Holl Architects.

The series of on-line lectures is dedicated to encounter with the critical thought of the most renowned contemporary theoreticians, art critics, curators and artists. At the time of the pandemic solitary confinement, we believe that with our effort the forced physical distance can be reshaped into the advantage of the greater proximity in exchange of ideas.
